Ingredients

Ice Cream Base
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1 1/4 cups whole milk
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Grape Nuts cereal add near the end of churning or after stirring base

Equipment

  • Ice Cream Maker
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Freezer-safe Container

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, salt, and vanilla until the sugar is mostly dissolved.
  2. Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s directions (usually 20–25 minutes).
  3. About 5 minutes before churning is complete, add the Grape Nuts cereal and let it mix in.
  4. For soft-serve texture, serve immediately. For a firmer consistency, transfer to a freezer-safe container and freeze for 2–4 hours.
  5. No Machine? Pour the base into a container, freeze 45 minutes, stir, and repeat every 30–45 minutes for about 3 hours. Add Grape Nuts during the second stir.

Notes

If you prefer a softer texture, soak the Grape Nuts in a few tablespoons of cream for 5–10 minutes before adding them in. This helps avoid overly crunchy bites.
